Pr Yan Burelle
Yan Burelle is University Research Chair in Integrative Mitochondrial Biology and Full Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at the University of Ottawa in Canada (www.burellelab.org). He hold a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the Université de Montréal and completed his Post-Doctoral Training in Biochemistry at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver where he focused on understanding the mechanisms regulating energy production and shuttling in muscle cells. His lab integrates multiple facets of mitochondrial biology to gain a better understanding of their role in tissue plasticity and disease development. Beyond bioenergetics and metabolism, his lab investigates processes such as ROS metabolism and permeability transition pore opening, as well as mitochondrial quality control mechanisms. An important focus of his lab is to delineate the role of mitophagy in muscle stem cells, and test whether stimulation of this process can improve their regenerative capacity. Professor Burelle has received >12 M$ in total funding, published >80 research articles, and earned several research and career awards.
