Attila Aszódi

Attila Aszódi is the scientific coordinator of the Musculoskeletal University Center Munich (MUM) (MUM) and head of the "Cartilage Development, Diseases, and Regulation" group at LMU University Hospital in Munich. His research focuses on musculoskeletal tissues, particularly cartilage development, diseases, and regeneration. His main area of interest is identifying the effects of integrin-mediated cell-matrix interactions and Rho GTPase signaling cascades on cartilage physiology and pathophysiology. In addition, he investigates the role of extracellular matrix integrity in regulating the development, function, and regeneration of the skeletal system. His group's research explored the role of beta1 integrins and matrilin family of ECM proteins in joint development and cartilage homeostasis. His laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach—combining mouse genetics, stem cell biology, and biomechanical studies—to study the processes of cartilage differentiation and repair, with a particular focus on diseases such as osteoarthritis.
