Dr Cameron Hill

Dr Cameron Hill is a postdoctoral research associate at King’s College London, UK, within the Randall Centre for Cell and Molecular Biophysics. Prior to this role, he worked as a research technician in the Structure and Motion Laboratory at the Royal Veterinary College, UK, (2017–2019), where he employed kinematic video analysis, X-ray Reconstruction of Moving Morphology (XROMM), and musculoskeletal robotics to investigate anuran locomotion. Cameron holds a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Coventry University, UK, (2011–2014) and completed his PhD at the same institution (2014–2018), examining the effects of ageing and obesity on isometric force, work loop power output, and fatigue resistance of isolated locomotor and respiratory skeletal muscle. His current research uses synchrotron-based, time-resolved small-angle X-ray diffraction to probe the regulatory states of myosin-containing thick filaments and actin-containing thin filaments in skeletal muscle during contraction. This work focuses on phenotypic differences between fast- and slow-twitch muscle across a range of contractile paradigms, including twitch and tetanic contraction, unloaded shortening, active stretch, length-step perturbations, and force–velocity profiling. He is also interested in how disease models, including ageing and obesity, impair contractile function at the cellular level, and in developing strategies to restore muscle performance.
