Pr Sylvain Dorel

Sylvain Dorel is Professor at the Nantes University (France), and a member of the Laboratory “Movement, Interactions, Performance” (MIP). He has a background in Human Movement Sciences and worked as researcher at the French National Institute for Sports (INSEP, France) from 2005 to 2010. His research focuses on muscle biomechanics, neuromuscular function in human and sport performance. The main field of his investigations is to better understand the motor function and its plasticity using a neuromechanical approach coupling the study of mechanical output, the muscle properties (e,g, the muscle-tendon interactions) and the muscle coordination (e,g, level and timing of activation). Several projects over the last 15 years concerned the Neuromechanics of multi-joint tasks (pedaling, running, and squat) with specific interest into the optimization of the maximal power and the top-level performance in cycling. In this context, he led different research projects funded by the French Ministry of Sport, and works in close collaboration with French Cycling Federation (FFC) and professional cycling team (Total Energie) from several years. He has been a Scientific Advisor for national track cycling team for the last three Olympic Games (2012-2021) and currently coordinates a work package in a French national agency grant project for the Paris 2024 Olympics (THPCA2024).
